“Believe it or not, the mesh bag is convenient because not all of the attachments get attached to the machine. By far, the best of the new features is the Clean Shot! I tried it on one stubborn stain, and it worked beautifully. I must admit, it’s a very nice feature! As for the Edge Sweep, at first I thought it was pointless because the bristles are stationary. But what I realized is the Edge Sweep is truly what gives your carpeting the well-groomed look to it, so it’s nice for that. But it doesn’t do anything for cleaning purposes.

The big clunker of new features is the Dry Aire. It’s useless, other than to warm up the room more and add more noise. It doesn’t help dry the carpets, runs even when using the attachments, and there is no way to turn it off. The only other “negative” is cleaning this machine.”

Amazon.com usually has some of the best prices on Bissell carpet cleaning products and include free shipping.

But before you buy where are a few things that you should be aware of:

1. It is important to clean your machine on a hard surface as it may leave leak or spill when emptying the water tank. You don’t want that stuff back on your Carpet.

2. Some customers have had to go over a wet spot a few times using the Dry Aire system. Be aware that it may not completely dry your carpet the first time, but it they will be dryer faster than if you didn’t use it at all.

3. This product is backed by Bissell’s 1 year limited warranty.

Another great Bissell deep cleaner for under $100 is the Bissell 2090 quick steamer. This should also be labeled as a lightweight machine weighting under 20lbs but Bissell is trying to shorten their product names I guess :).

While this is another good cleaner the name “quicksteamer” can be misleading as this doesn’t actually do any cleaning by using steam. Since there is no on board heater the water can only ever get as hot as when you pour it into the machine itself. Please do not attempt to add boiling water as this is not recommended and may actually damage the product.

You can however use this Bissell 2090 to clean almost all flooring surfaces including ceramic and laminate flooring. As always it comes with the dirt lifter power brush for getting your carpets extra clean.

Where to buy the Bissell 2090 Quicksteamer

If you have been reading my blog for a while now you know that I recommend Amazon.com for almost all my bissell product purchases. I do receive a commission if you buy through them but that is not why I recommend them. Price is the reason, Why would you pay an extra $20, $30 or $50 at a retail store when you can have it shipped to your door (free) and for way less money. Seems like a no brainer to me.

If you use your Bissell vacuum for cleaning up after your pets then there is an accessory pack that you need to get. It’s called the Bissell Pet Pack and here is what comes in it.

The pet pack consists of 2 different attachments. 1. The turbo brush and 2. The Flexible Contour Tool.

I’m not going to go into too much detail about the pet pack because there isn’t too much to say about it except that it works like a charm.

Let face it when a piece of equipment breaks down it’s never a pleasant expereince and it seems that it always stops working when you need it the most.

Bissell products are durable and made to last, but even they breakdown. Replacing the broken or used parts yourself can save you a lot of time and money.

Here are what I see as the 3 most common parts that need to be replaced for most upright Bissell carpet cleaning models and where you can buy them.

Bissell Filters

Keeping your filters clean is essential for proper performance and maintance of your cleaner. A clogged filter actually makes the motor work harder and can cause it to burn out much soon than you’d expect it to.

Most Bissell filters can be purchased from the retail store where you bought your cleaner. They tend to carry the most common parts on the shelf. If you bought your Bissell carpet cleaner from Bissell directly or Amazon.com you can visit their accessory section and find the filter you need. For Amazon customers I have saved you a bit of work, you can find the Bissell Filter list Here.

Bissell Drive Belts

Those powerful brushes that pick up all the loose debris are moved by the drive belt but this can dry out, crack and then snap. I have had to replace one myself earlier this year and it was pretty easy. I found the part at Sears and it wasn’t too expensive.

Vacuum Bags

If you are not using a Bissell canister style system, you should really upgrade. Barring that the third most common Bissell Part to replace are the vacuum bags. Like the filters most retailers carry these in store and have them in stock.

All Other Bissell Parts

For all other parts I recommend that you visit your local small appliance repair store. It’s as easy as going to yellowpages.com and looking for “Small Appliance Repair”. These stores are in most cases authorized dealers and have access to the full line of Bissell parts, everything from triggers and nozzles to replacement tanks and brushes. If they don’t carry your part in stock they can order them in for you.

I found some really good Bissell carpet cleaner videos on youtube. They are from the Home Shopping Channel as they do some great product demonstrations so you can hear and see how they work.

Understand that the prices they are quoting are for that show and the products aren’t available through them anymore, but you can get the products for basically the same price from Amazon.com. I will include a link to the product on Amazon under each video.

It’s one thing to read about how a product works or looks, but these give the products a whole new appeal once your see them in action.

Should you be using a professional carpet cleaning service or doing it yourself? I have been asked that a few times and I have done both as well.

As much as I like Bissell and other home steam and carpet cleaners in most cases you really can’t beat the results that a professional carpet cleaner can provide. Their machines are much more powerful and can really get even the toughest stains out of carpets and upholstery.

Professional Carpet Cleaning Results

Obviously results will vary from cleaner to cleaner depending on the type of chemicals they use and the amount of effort they put in. I’ve had both good and bad experiences with this and it all came down to the person doing the cleaning.

Big Cleaning Company or the Little Guy

I’ve tried both the big carpet cleaning companies and the smaller “Mom and pop” operations. I have to say that the little guy was a bit more expensive but did a fantastic job. One man one truck and he owned the business. He took his time and did a thorough job. I recommended him to some of my neighbors and they were really pleased as well.

The big cleaning company did a decent job as well, better than I would have done but it was very rushed, he had other appointments to make and not very friendly. Their prices were about 10% cheaper but the service that went along with it was not worth the discount.

Use a Professional Carpet Cleaner

I recommend that you use a professional carpet cleaning service once a year maybe twice if your carpets are really bad. The rest of the time, either on a monthly or bi-weekly basis use your Bissell carpet cleaner. It will keep your carpets fresh and looking good.

If at all possible use a smaller cleaning company; you’ll get better results because they try harder in my opinion anyway. Get recommendations from your friends, family and neighbors first though.
